He Knows Your Name

When Justin Bieber became a star in the late 2000s, and his fans started attending his events, it was not uncommon for many young girls to faint when Justin remembered their name; the same applies to many other celebrities and their fans. It is interesting how much humans could wield so much power and influence on others. Come to think of it, many people make a living by simply being influencers, the world we live in today.

Of greater importance, though, is that your maker, who created the heavens and the earth in six days and holds the seven stars in his hand, knows your name. What does it mean for one to know your name? First, we should understand the importance of a name.

A name is a factor of identity. Initially, names were given to define an individual, speak life into their future, or affirm the factors that lead to their birth (among other reasons). A name is often given at birth, but in some cases, self-proclaimed at a later date. Your name is your person in words. Now, many people may call you what you were named at birth, and others may call you what name you have provided them as your "go-by" name; nonetheless, what they call you is your name.

But your God, the one who made you, has a unique name for you. Because He created you, He knows the reason for your creation, the amazing gift you bring to this world, and the future you will have. He has a name for you, so He knows your name. So irrelevant is whatever people may call you, or whatever you have claimed as your identity; your maker knows your true identity. God knows your name and calls you by it.

If you're unaware of the name in which He calls you, ask Him in prayer and by studying His word. Here are some scriptures that help define who you are to Him:

  • Psalm 139:14, KJV- I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

  • Jeremiah 1:5, NIV- Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

  • Isaiah 62:2, KJV- And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

  • John 15:16, KJV- Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Stake claim of your new name in Christ. Let 2 Corinthians 5:17 also be a guide, knowing that your sonship in Christ presents you as a new person, so a new name is only fitting. A name that God knows because He gave it to you is what you want. Ask Him for that name today.

Best wishes,

L.B.
